Save Money on Gasoline

Save at the Pump
It seems like the price of fuel is just going to keep on edging upwards. When I first started driving gasoline was under a dollar a gallon, but that was awhile back. Perhaps we cannot stop the rising gasoline prices but there are several different things that can be done to help us to save money on fuel expenses.
Keep on eye on your fuel gauge and when you drop below a half tank or so start looking at the fuel prices as you drive. This gives you time to do some comparisons so you can get the best prices available. Definitely try to avoid gas stations along the Interstates and busy highways as they tend to be 0.10 to 0.15 higher per gallon than places just on down the road. The idea of keeping an eye on the fuel gauge is so you can avoid being in a situation where you have to get gas “now” and you don’t have the luxury of comparison shopping.
Don’t let your vehicle idle for too long. If you are going to be stopped for a few minutes it is best to turn off the engine. Running a car at idle speed can use up as much as a gallon of gas per hour. If you tend to leave your car idling while you make short stops it can really add up quick.
Those car windows. This may sound unbelievable but opening your car windows while out on the highway can actually decrease your gas mileage. It seems that the open windows decrease the aerodynamics of the car causing a loss of around 10%.
And of course don’t forget to keep that tire pressure right. Under-inflated tires cause loss of MPG and they shorten the life of your tires.
