Tips On Lowering Power Bills

~
It’s hard to believe that just a hundred years ago, homes without electricity and gas were commonplace. In today’s world, we have become very dependent on having electrical lights, televisions, stereos, easily operated stoves and appliances…not to mention heating and air conditioning.
Along with these conveniences comes a cost…and that cost goes up each year. By keeping just a few simple things in mind, you can greatly reduce the amount of the dreaded power bill each month.
Turning lights off in unused rooms each time you leave them is a must. Use bulbs that are energy efficient. (60 watt bulbs are enough to reasonably light a room). Compact fluorescent bulbs are much more energy efficient, so consider replacing with those. Buying dimmer switches for your light bulbs will also be helpful.

Unplug It
A lot of people don’t realize that leaving things plugged in when not being used (such as cell phone chargers and game stations) can generate power as well. Unplug items that are not in use or use a power strip that can be switched off.
Making sure your home is properly insulated will go a long way in bringing your heating and air conditioning bills down. Be sure that all cracks are caulked and sealed. Furnaces and air conditioners need their filters replaced regularly to run efficiently. Programmable thermostats are also helpful in keeping these costs down.
Following these tips..and checking with your utility company to see about fixed or budget billing (which will keep your bill at the same amount each month) will ensure that your family can enjoy the comforts of electricity and natural gas, without hurting the bank account.
