Unit Pricing Be a Wise Shopper

Compare!
One of the most important factors that affect the price of your groceries is the unit price. Companies may present their products in packages of various shapes and sizes so it can be difficult to truly compare the prices.
A lot of grocery stores are putting unit price information on the shelf along with the product. Usually the price is shown in per ounce, per pound, or other standard units. With that information you can tell for sure which products are the lower priced.
It seems logical that the larger sized package of any particular product you buy would be the cheapest per unit. Often that is not the case at all! So don’t assume that the large “family” is always the better deal.

Get the Best Price!
When you look at the price of “soda” and compare you may find that the 12 oz cans are cheaper per ounce than the plastic bottles. But the next time you come back to that same store you may see that it is the reverse. Lets, take for example 12 ounce cans at 2.5 cents per ounce compared to 24 ounce plastic bottles at 2.0 cents per ounce.
So we are only talking about half a penny difference right? Well lets say that we are purchasing four six-packs of cans which would be 288 ounces. That half a penny would be 1.44. In other words in this scenario you can but the same exact amount of beverage in the plastic bottles and save $1.44!
I used “soda” as an example but you can see how the same principle can be applied to anything you shop for. If you want to save some serious money on your shopping all you need to do is learn to be a wise shopper.
